you're right there :)

i've got a polynesian version of it with curved legs on my back (tattooed ;))

you can check it out it's in my gallery ;)

in my case it represents the sun, considered the bringer of life on earth i believe. (there's other cultures using swastika-like signs as representation for the sun, sumerian and mayan or incan, to name a few)
